A fur trading post since 1600, Tadoussac is now a well-known summer resort. It is a historic and picturesque village situated at the mouth of the Saguenay Fjord on the St. Lawrence River, some 200 kilometers (120 miles) downstream from Quebec City.
Here, the St. Lawrence is 26 kilometers (18 miles) wide, salt water, 15 foot tides, up to 350 meters (1,000 feet) deep, and cold (3°C or 38°F). The whales love it here.
