Benny Beattie has post-graduate degrees from McGill University, Université de Montréal and Concordia University. A retired history teacher, he worked in a WWII refugee camp in Austria while living in Geneva from 1960 to 1964. He has travelled widely in Europe, Russia, (Trans Siberian Railway in 1970), Uzbekistan, Japan, Israel, Jordan, Syria, Canada, USA, Mexico, Costa Rica and Cuba. He is a member of Servas Canada, an international peace organization of hosts and travelers.
He currently lives with his wife in Montreal and Cedarville, Canada. He enjoys cross-country skiing, wilderness canoe trips (Nahanni 1994), sea kayaking, hiking, yoga, chess and sings bass in two choirs.
